The Souk Tour

Saturday, June 08, 2013

Just before we left for Australia last year, we attended a Christmas costume event with the Tribal Fitness crew that was referred to as the "souk tour". Ari and I had no idea what we were in for but thought it would be at least a cultural experience of some description.

We put together our own costumes, I went as a Christmas tree using decorations from our own tree and I wrapped up Ari as a present. We were very festive looking!

My darling Ari as the best gift any girl could get for Christmas :)

The souk tour ending up being what we would call a pub crawl and an eye opening introduction to the seedy underbelly of the night life in Bahrain. We visited many establishments through the night, each one being more weird and sticky than the previous.

We were followed around the souk by locals wanting pictures with our crazy looking group. It was quite a hilarious spectacle one would assume, for this region anyway where Christmas isn't really celebrated. Towards the end of the night, I had unknowingly lost many decorations off my costumes and in true big night out style we ended up eating shawarmas (kebabs) at three in the morning.
