Marble Mountains

One of the attractions we went to see in the Da Nang region was the Marble Mountains. They are made up of five marble and limestone hills rather than "mountains". They're named after the five elements; Kim (metal), Thuy (water), Moc (wood), Hoa (fire) and Tho (earth).

Although, not the brightest idea in near 40 degree heat but we couldn't not go. Arriving in (unbeknown to us) inappropriate footwear for the terrain we began our speedy ascent of the mountain in thongs...

The climb started with a mammoth set of stairs followed by a number of historic pagodas and hidden caves along the way. The caves provided the much needed cooling effect for our exploration efforts, for some disillusioned reason I didn't think climbing a mountain in Havaianas would be so tough. Go figure!

The experience very much reminded me of the time Ari and I attempted the 1000 steps in the Dandenong except minus the really fit seniors who were shamefully lapping us up and back. We managed to get to the peak to see the ocean view from the top. Can't say it was worth all the sweat but it was fun nonetheless.
